I first started to put weight on seriously when I had a car accident at the aged of 19 and broke both of my legs, I went to university the year after and as anyone knows your first year is all party party party, which inevitably lead to lots of drinking and takeaways. I ballooned up to 16 ½ stones (231 lbs) over the next 4 years had a really good social life which didn't help and which I wasn't prepared to give up.
I was really depressed about my weight, my legs were taking a battering with all the extra weight and I just couldn't or wouldn't do anything about it. Until I was asked to take part in a trial of a new ‘free day' diet which allowed you to eat and drink anything you like for one day of the week, which I thought was brilliant and I found this really suited my lifestyle. In the first 3 weeks I lost a stone in weight. I was over the moon. I think the secret is the free day. Most people think of diets as ‘you cant have this, you cant have that' but with this it is really down to earth way of losing weight and it doesn't pull any punches either. You know you have to earn your free day!
I ate really healthily during the week and really enjoyed it. There are lots of recipes and ideas in the books but Slimlines keeps everything simple and to the point. I even enjoy cooking now which I never thought I would hear myself say! Then on the free day I had my drinks, takeaways, out for meals etc. I thought I did plenty of exercise with my drumming but as the weight started coming off I felt more alive than I had done for years and started at the gym, swimming, I started surfing when I went on holiday and now do a lot of skateboarding to practice my balance for the surfing, which again is really good exercise, rock climbing, yoga, you name it and I've had a go at it.
And this is all down to losing the weight!
I have now lost nearly 4 ½ stone (63lbs) and feel fantastic. Although I am at the weight I want to be, I still eat healthily during the week, get loads of exercise and still have my boozy nights out. I would recommend to everyone who has a weight problem to try the Slimlines programme. It really does work.
